1. എന്താണ് AASW? (What is AASW?)

Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) ആണ് ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയൻ ഗവൺമെന്റ് അംഗീകരിച്ച, സോഷ്യൽ വർക്ക് തൊഴിൽ വിഭാഗത്തിനുള്ള ഔദ്യോഗിക "assessing authority". മൈഗ്രേഷനുവേണ്ടിയുള്ള നിങ്ങളുടെ വിദേശ സോഷ്യൽ വർക്ക് യോഗ്യത വിലയിരുത്തുന്നത് ഇവരാണ്.

AASW is the Australian Government's nominated assessing authority for the Social Worker occupation. It runs the Migration & Eligibility Assessment (MEA), which checks whether an overseas social work qualification is comparable to an AASW-accredited Australian one, under the Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards (ASWEAS).

2. AASW-യുടെ 5 യോഗ്യതാ മാനദണ്ഡങ്ങൾ (The 5 Official Eligibility Criteria)

1. Specific social work qualification: The qualification must be a specific qualification in social work - not a related field like psychology, sociology, or general community services.
2. Recognised as professional in the country of training: The qualification must be regarded as a professional social work qualification in the country where it was obtained.
3. Comparable learning outcomes: The learning outcomes must be comparable to what graduates of AASW-accredited Australian social work programs demonstrate.
4. 1,000 hours of field education: At least 1,000 hours of field education, across a minimum of two placements with two contrasting practice foci, and at least one placement must be in direct practice.
5. High-level English proficiency: As specified in the AASW English Language Policy (covered in detail below).

3. ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് ഭാഷാ ആവശ്യകത (English Language Policy - Effective 20 May 2026)

AASW currently accepts only the IELTS Academic test (plus the IELTS Academic One Skill Retake, in specific circumstances) - not PTE, OET, or TOEFL. This is different from the Department of Home Affairs' visa English requirements, which do accept a broader range of tests. Applicants must meet one of three options:

• Option 1: Overall 7.0 in one sitting, with a minimum of 7.0 in all four components (listening, reading, writing, speaking).
• Option 2: A minimum of 7.0 in each of the four components, achieved across a maximum of two sittings within a 6-month period, with no single component below 6.5.
• Option 3: One full IELTS Academic sitting with 7.0 in three of four components (none below 6.5), plus one IELTS Academic One Skill Retake to bring the remaining component up to 7.0, taken within 60 days of the original test.

Test results must be obtained within 3 years before submitting the AASW qualification assessment. For Option 3, AASW also states that the IELTS Academic One Skill Retake result must have been obtained within 12 months of the MEA application date.

Exemption from English testing

ചില അപേക്ഷകർക്ക് ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് ടെസ്റ്റ് ഒഴിവാക്കാം. You may be exempt if you completed all of Years 7–12 taught and assessed in English in Australia, Canada, NZ, Ireland, South Africa, the UK, or the USA, and completed at least 3 years of full-time tertiary study (Bachelor's or higher) taught and assessed in English in one of those same countries. Both conditions must be met - completing only your degree in English, without also completing full secondary schooling in one of those countries, does not qualify for the exemption.

4. ഫീസും പ്രോസസ്സിംഗ് സമയവും (AASW-Published Fees & Processing Times)

AASW-യുടെ വെബ്സൈറ്റിൽ ഇപ്പോൾ കാണിക്കുന്ന fee schedule FY2025–26 എന്നാണ് ലേബൽ ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നത്, 1 July 2025 മുതൽ പ്രാബല്യത്തിൽ വന്ന നിരക്കുകളാണ് താഴെ.

Important: As of this September 2026 review, AASW's official fee page is still displaying the FY2025–26 schedule below. Because fees can be revised, confirm the amount shown in the AASW application portal before paying.

5. വിസ പാതകൾ (Occupation Status & Visa Pathways)

Social Worker occupation-ന്റെ ANZSCO code 272511 ആണ്. എന്നാൽ ഒരു occupation list-ൽ പേര് ഉണ്ടെന്നത് മാത്രം visa eligibility, invitation, nomination, sponsorship എന്നിവ ഉറപ്പാക്കുന്നില്ല.

Different visa programs use different occupation-list frameworks. Home Affairs currently uses ANZSCO 2013 for many points-tested and regional skilled visa subclasses, including the occupation lists used for Subclasses 189, 190 and 491. For the Skills in Demand visa (Subclass 482) and Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186), Home Affairs uses ANZSCO 2022 and the Core Skills Occupation List framework. Social Worker (272511) appears on the Core Skills Occupation List.

The Subclass 485 Temporary Graduate visa is a separate pathway for eligible graduates of Australian study and should not be treated as a general visa route for someone whose social work qualification was completed in Kerala or elsewhere overseas.

State & territory nomination

Several states have historically included Social Worker on their nominated occupation lists for Subclass 190 and/or 491, but each state sets its own criteria, quotas, and residence/work requirements - and these change every program year. Rather than list state-by-state details here (which would likely be outdated by the time you read this), check each state's current skilled migration page directly: NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, and others via their individual state migration portals.

6. കേരളത്തിൽ നിന്നുള്ള അപേക്ഷകർക്ക് (Practical Notes for Kerala/India-Qualified Applicants)

AASW ഒരു പ്രത്യേക കേരള/ഇന്ത്യൻ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി ലിസ്റ്റ് പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിക്കുന്നില്ല. ഒരു യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയുടെ പേര് മാത്രം വച്ച് അസസ്‌മെന്റ് പാസാകുമെന്ന് ഉറപ്പ് പറയാൻ കഴിയില്ല.

Common document issues from India

• Consolidated vs semester-wise marksheets: Some Kerala universities issue a single consolidated marksheet; others issue separate semester marksheets. Follow the document checklist for your application. AASW's current online-application FAQ says uploaded documents generally do not need to be certified and should be clear, high-quality colour scans of the originals; follow any specific evidence instructions that apply to your application.
• Field placement evidence: Since AASW's 1,000-hour requirement is specific (two placements, two contrasting foci, one in direct practice), a general "completion certificate" from your college may not be enough - you may need placement-specific documentation showing hours, dates, supervisor details, and practice type.
• Medium of Instruction letters: A "Medium of Instruction: English" letter from your university is not the same as meeting AASW's English language policy. AASW's English requirement is met only via IELTS Academic (or the specific secondary+tertiary education exemption described above) - a MOI letter alone does not satisfy it.
• Name differences: If your name is spelled differently across your passport, degree certificate, and marksheets (common with transliteration from Malayalam), be prepared to provide supporting evidence or a statutory declaration linking the documents.

• Your qualification (BSW/MSW/other), university, mode of study (regular/distance), and graduation year
• Total field placement hours completed, number of placements, and their practice focus
• Current English test scores (if any), or which of the exemption pathways might apply to you
• Total years of post-qualifying social work employment, and where (India/overseas/Australia)
• Your age, citizenship, and current visa status (if already in Australia)
• Your preferred state/territory and visa subclass, if you have one in mind
